Privacy Policy

Last updated: 29 August 2026

This page explains what Ro-Weather (“we”, “the site”) collects when you use ro-weather.app, why, and what rights you have over it. It's written in plain English on purpose — if anything here is unclear, contact us using the details at the bottom and we'll explain further.

What we collect

If you create an account: your email address and authentication details, handled for us by Clerk, our sign-in provider. We use this only to know who you are when you use the admin area — Ro-Weather doesn't require an account to view weather, radar, lightning or reports.

If you allow location access: your browser's reported latitude and longitude, used to fetch weather data for your area and to centre the map. This is used live, in your browser, to call the weather and mapping services listed below — it is not stored on our servers or logged against your identity.

Basic analytics: aggregated page-view and performance data via Vercel Analytics, which does not use tracking cookies and does not build an individual profile of you.

Cookies & local storage

Signing in sets a session cookie (managed by Clerk) so you stay signed in between visits. If you're our admin, one additional cookie may be set to manage access to the warnings admin panel — this doesn't apply to ordinary visitors.

The site also installs a service worker in your browser to let pages you've already visited load while offline. Everything it stores (cached pages, cached API responses) stays on your device — it is never sent to us. You can clear it any time via your browser's site data settings.

Third-party services we rely on

Ro-Weather is built on top of several outside services, each of which processes a request (usually just a location or map tile coordinates) when you use the relevant feature. We don't control their own data practices, so we'd encourage checking their policies directly if you want the full picture:

  • Weather & warnings data: the Met Office, MeteoAlarm, Open-Meteo, OpenWeatherMap and RainViewer
  • Maps & location lookup: MapTiler, OpenStreetMap, Nominatim, and Postcodes.io
  • Hosting & analytics: Vercel
  • Sign-in: Clerk
  • Admin data storage: Supabase — used only to store the warnings our admin publishes, not visitor data

How long we keep data

Account data is kept for as long as your account exists, and deleted when you delete your account (or on request — see “Your rights” below). Location data is never stored server-side in the first place, so there's nothing to retain. Analytics data is aggregated and not tied to an individual identity.

Your rights

If you're in the UK or EU, UK/EU GDPR gives you the right to ask us to: show you what data we hold on you, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, receive a copy of it, or object to how it's used. Email us using the contact details below and we'll action it. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) at any time.

Children

Ro-Weather isn't directed at children and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Ro-Weather after a change means you accept the updated policy.
