Live lightning map
Lightning strikes across the UK, Ireland and Europe as they happen.
How to read it
- Each dot is one lightning strike. White is just now; it fades through yellow and orange to red as it ages.
- Strikes come from the Blitzortung network of volunteer-run detectors and usually appear within a few seconds.
- It counts strikes from the moment you open the map. Detection is not perfect: some strikes are missed, and a position can be a few kilometres out.
